They then walk past what appear to be slaves as a man is raising the Confederate flag. This gives us the feeling that this will be more of a horror film that tugs on your emotions. This leaves the viewer in suspense of what will happen next. Different strategies used are music, adv...

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
For this blog I had to research the website  https://www.watchthetitles.com/ . The layout of the page is actually really nice. The first thing I noticed was the interviews they have. There are many tabs on the page. These are to help easily navigate your way through the site. When you click these tabs they bring you further into the site for a more in depth look. This makes the viewer want to explore some more. It helped me find titles in which I was interested in watching. It also gave a summary, the credits and the creators. This is a very interesting site.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

In this blog I had to research  https://www.artofthetitle.com/ . The website was very intriguing. You first see a title that they recommend. This could draw the viewer into wanting to browse the website. This site is very easy to navigate through. This is due to the pull down tabs at the top of the page. When a title is selected, it also shows the credits. As well as the networks you can view it with. This is a very helpful and handy website. I will definitely use this in the future.

Genre Research: IT Chapter 2

Image
We had to watch 3 movies for our respective genre for our final task. My genre is horror. For my third movie, I watched IT Chapter 2. This was a really good movie. This is the sequel in the new IT series. This is a remake of the original IT movie. There were lots of jump scares. There were also a lot of psychological scares. This created a really good blend. There were some really creative techniques used in this film. There were some really good aspects as well. In the movie , " Defeated by members of the Losers' Club, the evil clown Pennywise returns 27 years later to terrorize the town of Derry, Maine, once again. Now adults, the childhood friends have long since gone their separate ways. But when people start disappearing, Mike Hanlon calls the others home for one final  stand. Damaged by scars from the past, the united Losers must conquer their deepest fears to destroy the shape-shifting Pennywise -- now more powerful than ever."   This movie had very good usage of s...

Genre Research: House of 1000 Corpses

Image
The next movie I watched was House of 1000 Corpses. This movie may just be one of the most sick and twisted movies I have ever seen. This was hands down the goriest film I have ever seen. This movie is rated R for a reason. While this film was very wrong, it was a pretty solid film. The film is about " An empty fuel tank and a flat tire lead two couples down a terror-riddled road to the House of 1000 Corpses. "House of 1000 Corpses" is at its core a story of family - a cast of twisted individuals who, with each slash of a throat or stab thru the chest, add bodies to their sick human menagerie." This movie had a lot of aspects that I will want to use in my film. One being the sounds. There were lots of blood curdling screams. There were also a lot of blades. There also was some lighting aspects I will want to use. In the film they illuminated the room very dimly. I will use this in my film. I also want to use a lot of the camera angles used in this film. They added a...

Genre Research: Hush

Image
I have seen lots of good horror movies. However, I have also seen some really bad ones. Different horror movies appeal to different people. One movie I chose was Hush. Hush is a horror movie which was released in 2016. This was a pretty good film. It was decently scary but not overly scary. The movie is about a deaf writer who retreated to the woods to live a solitary life who must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears in her window. This movie was more of a thrilling horror movie. This movie had a lot of aspects I will end up using. One being the lighting. It was dark. Also, not a lot of light was used throughout the film. The movie was also really quiet. This was due to the woman being deaf. I actually really like how quiet it was because it built up the suspense. It also gave the movie a sense of eeriness. I did not like how unrealistic some of the aspects in the movie were. Hush overall was a pretty solid film. I definitely recommend it.

Genre Decision

Image
We had to research a genre for this blog. I am choosing horror for my movie. At first I thought I knew a lot about horror. I would soon come to the realization that I was very mistaken. I chose horror for many reasons. One being because it is one of my favorite genres. Another being that it is very different in the way it it setup from most other genres. Rather than it being light outside, it is usually dark. There are 4 main lighting techniques in the horror genre. These are "uplighting", "spotlighting", "silhouettes" and "underexposure". These help create a sense of fright or gloominess throughout the scenes. There are many different camera angles used in the horror genre. These include, "birds-eye", "low angles", "close ups" and "tilted angles". Mis-En-Scene is very important in movies. Without this, there would be no movies. Most horror movies contain costumes, props and makeup such as clown makeup to...

Genre Research: Action and Romance

We have two pick two genres to research outside of my own. I am choosing action and romance. I chose action because action is a great genre and a classic one too. I chose romance for a different reason though. I chose romance because I feel it is the complete opposite of horror. While I thought I knew a lot about action, there is a lot I didnt know and I dont really know anything about romance. Action uses a lot of different lighting techniques like "backlighting", "side lighting", "natural lighting" and "lowkey lighting". Some common camera angles are "wide shots", "over the shoulder", "close ups" and "extreme close ups". Costumes, makeup and props such as cars are the most common Mise-En-Scene found in action movies. Common sounds found in action are gunshots, explosions, punching and jets. Some action movie examples are The Fast and the Furious, Deadpool, Indiana Jones and Taken. Romance on the other han...

My Pitch

Image
I came up with two pitches for my final task. One was "A girl gets kidnapped by 2 men and she tries to escape their torture while being secretive and quiet." The other pitch I came up with was "2 guys have an intuition something bad is after them and are trying to escape it, but is it their imaginations?" I think the first idea would be a really good idea. This would be more of a gruesome type of horror film . This would be meant to truly frighten the audience. As well as terrify them. This could also be a great true horrifying film. The second pitch would also be a really good idea. This would be more of a psychological thriller. This film wouldn't be meant to truly scare the audience. This film would pull every string in your mind and make you question everything you just saw. This would mess with your intuition. Make you question your reality. Make you question what is real and what is not. I am choosing the first pitch. I am choosing this pitch because I fe...

Starting the Final Task

Image
Hi, my name is Grant Lamont. Im 17 years old. I am an 11th grader at Ft. Lauderdale High School. I am very involved with sports. I play volleyball. I also participate in track and field. For this project I will be working by myself. I am working by myself because I do not like doing group projects. This is because I usually end up doing most of the work. Another reason I am doing this project by myself is because of COVID-19. I do not feel like depending on someone for work and something coming up and them not being able to record. I am also a very independent person. I additionally do not feel like dealing with peoples drama. I also dont like my grade being dependent on other people. I will be making a horror film for my final task. I love horror films. That is why I am making a horror film. I also started this class with the horror genre. Therefore, I want to finish with the horror genre. I want to finish how I started.
